Irish Gothic - Folklore in the 21st Century
Folklore in the 21st Century Our idea for the project was to capture the fact that folklore and folk tradition still exists in 21st Century Ireland, in both rural and urban landscapes.
Although the people pictured are from the present day, what they represent and believe in is something from a time long gone. Each photograph is a genuine depiction of ancient folk tradition and folklore in the modern world.
These are traditions that they have helped maintain in the present day, and only for people like this these traditions would be lost. We wanted to capture that magical time in the evening when the light is about to leave us and the darkness is about to ascend on us - that is the time that the wall between the Fairy World and ours is at its thinnest.
The images embody people who practice old traditions or represent relevant figures from ancient Ireland in the modern environment.
